Throughout their eight years in the White House, Barack and Michelle Obama made very clear that they love each other. Political hardships did not separate them. Love has been and still is present in this popular couple.
The Obamas have shown their love publicly, and privately. The more private moments have been notorious thanks to social media. These snapshots they have shared with the public reflect deep love. But, like in any other love story, jealousy can show up from time to time, and even play games.
And that is what happened to Michelle Obama during Nelson Mandela’s funeral in Johannesburg, when her husband was taking a selfie with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Thorning Schmidt. An uncomfortable situation, that the First Lady of the United States fixed on the spot, switching seats with her husband.
Loving a strong woman
It was Michelle’s personality and character what made Barack fall in love with her. The Obama’s love story starts in June 1989. The 44th President had just started a summer internship at a law firm in Chicago. Michelle Robinson was his mentor at the firm. “This is not a date,” said young Robinson to his coworker Obama when he picked her up on his old car to attend a community meeting.
At the beginning, she refused to date Barack Obama. But, by the end of the summer of 1989, they started dating. The date that was not a date became a world-known love story. Even more during the past eight years, they have lived their love story candidly in the public eye, sometimes, ignoring protocol. They have been a stable couple, with no lack of visible affection, respect and admiration.
Both Barack and Michelle have seized the opportunity during their anniversaries to remind each other publicly of their mutual love. They have shown the world that their love story has grown stronger. Social media are the platforms chosen to always send each other romantic messages. “Side-by-side for 24 years. Here’s to many more. #HappyAnniversary,” wrote Barack Obama, together with a picture of him kissing her on the cheek.
“55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day. Happy birthday, Barack. I love you. -mo. So far, the Obamas have not hesitated to share their romantic moments with the world, and there are plenty of images that reflect their beautiful love story, built day by day.
A good decision
One of the cutest images of them was captured the day when they danced for the first time as President of the United States and First Lady. Another memorable picture is one after the gala. A moment when, surrounded by advisors and secret service agents, she is wearing his jacket, while they look into each other’s eyes.
There have been plenty of PDA between them. One of the latest, happen while celebrating St. Valentine’s Day at the White House, during the Ellen DeGeneres show. The President said: “Michelle, I’ve made a lot of great decisions as president. The best decision I ever made was choosing you. Thanks for putting up with me. I love you.”
A few hours after leaving the White House, Ms. Obama read a note written by her with a loving message. “Thank you, Barack, for proving you’re not a lame duck, but my very own silver fox,” said the thank you note. The President returned the favor and said to her on his final address, chocking up: “You are my best friend.”
The President also said that her wife assumed the role as First Lady with “grace, style and a good sense of humor,” which made the White House a place that belongs to all. While Obama was delivering his final address, Michelle was wearing a navy lace dress, receiving his words with great emotion. At the end, they embraced each other, a good hug, that will not be the last.
Friends and partners
Michelle was a big support for her husband during the presidency. She was taking care of their daughters; but she also dedicated time to advance important programs that gave a special stamp to the Obama administration. Among her initiatives were the programs Let’s move! And Let Girls Learn!
