Angelica Maria is enjoying one of the best moments of her long and successful career. She just received a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She received the “Premio Leyenda” at the Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards. Her agenda is booked with musical performances. During her conversation with CASA Magazine she shared two areas of great interest for her at this time in her life. She is launching an acting career in English, for the North American market and she is very happy in her role as a grandma.
This past May, Angelica Maria revealed her star at the Hollywood Walk of fame. “I believe every artist has dreamt of having a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I never thought I would get one, but this has been a true dream come true,” said the Mexican artist. Angelica Maria’s star is located at the 7060 on Hollywood Boulevard, across the street from Live Nation. As a girl, she lived not too far from where her star is located now.
Angelica Maria debuted when she was five years old on the film “Pecado” (Sin) in 1950. To be on that movie, she asked for a haircut because the role she played was that of a boy. “I told my mother, ‘cut my hair, I will play the role of a boy’”, remembered Angelica. After her first appearance, she has participated in 61 films in several genres and she has acted in more than 25 soap operas. In theater, she has been in 16 plays, with “Gigi” as the most memorable. She recorded her first album at the age of 17 and has recorded 63 productions since then.
Now in English
A recent accomplishment for Angelica Maria was the “Premio Leyenda” that she was awarded at the Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards. The ambassador of Mexico in the United States, Carlos Sada, personally gave it to her. This award highlighted her contribution to the showbiz industry in Latin-American and the United States, where she has lived for a few years now. And because her talent never runs out, she is now making her crossover to the Anglo market.
Angelica Maria is part of the cast of the T.V. sitcom “Graves”, starred by Nick Nolte. The actress plays the role of Ramona Alvarez, a domestic employee from Mexico who serves the character interpreted by Nolte, a U.S. ex-president. “I am beginning my career in the U.S. I say one line in each episode. Maybe by the eighth episode I say five. And I’ve been told it will keep growing. This is just the beginning and I have plans of continuing to do what I like. This is my challenge,” she confessed.
Angelica Maria maintains a very special relationship with her only daughter, Angelica Vale. “Every time I have worked with her, I’ve been really happy, said the mother, referring to her daughter, who is also an artist. Last year, they release the album “Dinastía” (Dynasty) where they sing duets. They had embarked projects together in the past, in theater and television. They both live in California and share another bond. “Angeliquita” has made her a grandmother of two.
“Being a mother and a grandmother is more or less the same thing. I have my little girl again, and now I have two. And I have a little boy too. I am crazy about them. It is like having kids again, but with more experience, with the knowledge gained throughout the years. With a different vision. I enjoy more, and I suffer more too,” said Angelica Maria. She also reflected, “I worry because I see how the world is now, and I want them to live in a happy world, filled with opportunities. I think about my grandchildren and everyone else’s too.”

How beautiful is my homeland!
Angelica Maria was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She moved to Mexico when she was 4 years old and grew up there. She currently lives in Hollywood, but she always has Mexico in her heart. “When I think about Mexico, I feel nostalgia. But, every day when I get up I sing “Qué bonita es mi tierra, qué bonita, qué linda es.” Anywhere you go, your homeland is always the most beautiful. It doesn’t matter where you are from, your homeland is the most beautiful,” she said.
